Hinglish AI visibility tracking measures how often AI engines name your brand when Indian buyers ask in Hinglish, which is Hindi and English mixed and typed in English letters, like "oily skin ke liye konsa face wash best hai". Depra suggests a Hinglish version of each buying question when India is one of your markets, asks both versions to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, and records which brands each answer names.
The two versions can get different brands. In our study of 480 AI answers collected from India, we scored how alike two brand lists are from 0 to 100, and Perplexity’s English and Hinglish answers scored 23.4 points lower than two runs of the same question. Hinglish questions run on every plan inside Depra’s AI visibility tracking, so both languages sit in one project with the same competitors. The side-by-side English vs Hinglish table in your report is listed on Growth and above.
| What you get | How it works | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Hinglish questions | A Hinglish version of each suggested buying question when India is a market, in English letters only | Your prompt list |
| Four AI engines | ChatGPT with web search, Gemini and Google AI Overviews daily; Perplexity weekly; India as the location | Every stored answer |
| English vs Hinglish table | Share of English answers and share of Hinglish answers that mention each tracked brand | Your report, on Growth and above |
| Stored answers | The full text of every English and Hinglish answer, with the brands named and the sites cited | Your answer list, CSV export |
Why does Hinglish change AI answers?
Hinglish changes which brands some AI engines recommend, and the size of the change depends on the engine. Our study measured how large the change is. It did not test why it happens.
We asked 10 buying questions, 5 about skincare and 5 about fashion, in English and in Hinglish, 8 times each, on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. All 480 answers were collected with India as the location on 14 August 2026. An engine’s brand list shifts a little every time you ask the same question again. We call that rerun noise, and the language effect is the change on top of it.
We measured both with a brand overlap score from 0 to 100: the share of brands two answers have in common, out of every brand either answer names. Two runs of the same question in the same language set the baseline. The points in the table below are how much lower the score was between an English answer and a Hinglish answer.
- Perplexity changed most. The Derma Co appeared in 2.5% of English answers and 20.0% of Hinglish answers. Plum went the other way, from 28.7% in English to 15.0% in Hinglish.
- Gemini showed fewer source links. A citation is a source link shown with an answer. Gemini showed at least one source link with 72 of 80 English answers (90.0%) and 33 of 80 Hinglish answers (41.3%). If your visibility depends on review sites and marketplaces, a Hinglish buyer on Gemini sees those links far less often.
- ChatGPT stayed close to unchanged. A gap of 2.2 points on the 0 to 100 overlap score, the weakest result in the study. For these questions ChatGPT named nearly the same brands in both languages.
| Engine | Brand list change beyond rerun noise | Answers with source links, English | Answers with source links, Hinglish |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | 2.2 points | 100% (80 of 80) | 100% (80 of 80) |
| Gemini | 7.8 points | 90.0% (72 of 80) | 41.3% (33 of 80) |
| Perplexity | 23.4 points | 100% (80 of 80) | 100% (80 of 80) |
What does this mean if you track English questions only?
English-only tracking measures what English buyers see. On Perplexity and Gemini, a buyer who asks the same question in Hinglish can get a different brand list and different source links. You would not see that gap, and you would not know which competitor fills it.
The plain readout of the study lists the brands that gained and lost ground in Hinglish, with counts for each engine.
How Depra writes Hinglish questions
Depra writes each Hinglish question in English letters, the way buyers type it, and never in Devanagari script. When India is one of your project’s markets, every suggested buying question comes with a Hinglish version of the same ask.
- Same ask, two versions. The Hinglish version keeps the product, budget and intent of the English one. A pair from our study: "Which face wash should I buy for oily skin in India under ₹500?" and "India mein oily skin ke liye 500 rupees ke andar konsa face wash kharidna chahiye?"
- Buying questions with no brand names. Depra suggests 5 topics with 8 buying questions each, and none of them contains your brand name. Depra does not count questions that already contain your name, so every mention in your numbers is one the engine chose to give.
- You control the wording. Edit any question, rewrite the Hinglish version, pause or tag a question, or add your own.
- Each version is one prompt. A prompt is one question Depra tracks. The English and Hinglish versions count as 2 prompts, so the 20 prompts on Starter ask 10 buying questions in both languages for one market, and the 100 prompts on Growth ask 50.
Rules for writing your own Hinglish questions
Keep product nouns such as face wash or running shoes in English, write the connecting words in Hindi, and keep the budget and the India anchor identical to the English version. Our guide on how to write Hinglish tracking prompts covers the full rules, with the pairs that failed review and how each was fixed.
What do you see in your report?
On Growth and above, your report has a table called "Visibility by prompt language". It lists every tracked brand with two numbers: the share of English answers that mention it and the share of Hinglish answers that mention it. If a competitor leads in Hinglish while you lead in English, that row shows it.
The same page carries the rest of your project: a plain-English summary of where you stand, visibility by engine, your competitors and your top fixes.
- Confidence range. Your report shows a confidence range for visibility by engine: the band your true number likely sits in, given how many answers sit behind it.
- Reply language. Depra detects the language of every reply, English, Hinglish or Hindi, and keeps it apart from the language of the question. Your Hinglish numbers always mean buyers who asked in Hinglish.
- Your branding. On Growth and above, add your logo, accent colour and footer to the report. Save the report as a PDF from the browser.
- Every answer, stored. Every English and Hinglish answer is stored in full and searchable, so you can read the exact sentence that named a competitor. The answer list exports to CSV.
Does Depra track Hindi in Devanagari?
No. Depra tracks English and Hinglish questions. Hindi questions written in Devanagari script are not tracked, and neither are Hindi AI Overviews in Google.
Engines sometimes reply in Devanagari to a Hinglish question anyway. In our study, Gemini answered 8 of 80 Hinglish questions in Devanagari Hindi, while ChatGPT and Perplexity replied in Hinglish every time. Depra records that reply language on each answer.
Who needs Hinglish tracking?
Any brand selling in India whose buyers ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google in Hinglish. Start with categories where people compare price, fit or skin type before they buy, because questions like these ask the engine to name brands.
- Skincare. "sabse accha sunscreen oily skin ke liye 500 rupees ke andar"
- Fashion. "India mein shaadi ke liye budget mein online konsi sarees kharidun?"
- Nutrition. "India mein sabse accha protein powder kaunsa hai?"
- Software for brands. B2B buyers type Hinglish too: "D2C brand ke liye kaunsa AI visibility tool lena chahiye?" Our list of AI visibility tools for D2C brands compares the options.
Agencies with Indian clients
Track English and Hinglish for each client project and hand over a report with your logo. The Scale plan pools 180 prompts across 25 projects. Plans start at ₹1,999 a month plus GST. Hinglish questions run on every plan, and the English vs Hinglish table and your logo on reports are listed on Growth and above: see Depra pricing.
