Depra's AI visibility checker asks your buyers' questions to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews and shows whether each answer names your brand. It also shows where you rank against competitors and which websites the answers cite. You get it by signing up: every plan starts with 7 days free with no card, and your first scan starts at signup.

Google AI Overviews are the AI-written summaries Google shows above some search results. Depra asks from inside your country, in English and, for India, in Hinglish too. Hinglish is Hindi-English typed in English letters, the way many Indians type their questions ('sabse accha protein powder kaunsa hai'). Without signing up, use the manual method below or one of the free instant checkers in the table further down.

How do you check your AI visibility by hand?

You can run a first check with a browser and a spreadsheet. One pass gives you 20 answers: enough to spot a clear gap, too few for a stable score.

  • Write 5 buyer questions. Phrase them the way a buyer would, and leave your brand name out: 'best face wash for oily skin under ₹500', 'which accounting software is good for a small business in India'. A question that already names you tells you little about whether AI recommends you.
  • Open each engine in a private window. Use ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google Search logged out where the app allows it, so your own history does not shape the answers. In ChatGPT, turn on web search so the answer shows its sources.
  • Ask each question once in each engine. That makes 20 answers. On Google, first note whether an AI Overview appears at the top of the results at all, since Google does not show one for every search.
  • Record four things per answer. Named: yes or no. Position: 1 if you were named first in a list, 2 if second. Competitors named. Websites cited.
  • Repeat the same pass on another day. AI answers change from run to run, so a brand that appears once can be missing the next time. Two passes give you 40 answers.
  • Count. Your visibility is the answers that named you divided by all answers. 8 of 40 is 20%.

Where the manual check runs out

Forty answers leave a wide margin. At 8 of 40, the 95% confidence range, the band your true share most likely sits in, runs from about 10% to 35%. It also covers one country, one language and one moment, with no record of what changed after you published a page or got listed somewhere. How to measure AI visibility covers how many answers you need.

How does Depra's AI visibility checker work?

You paste your website, and Depra sets up the check for you to review.

  • Brand profile: Depra drafts your industry, audience and markets from your site. You correct anything it got wrong.
  • Buyer questions: Depra suggests 5 topics with 8 buying questions each, none of them naming your brand. When India is one of your markets, each question also gets a Hinglish version. Add, edit, pause or tag any question.
  • Competitors: Depra suggests the brands to track against you, from 3 per project on Starter to 20 on Enterprise.
  • Country: Pick from 40 markets, including India, the United States, the UK, 6 Gulf countries and Australia. Questions are asked from inside that country. City-level location is not offered.
  • First scan: It starts at signup. After that, ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews are checked daily and Perplexity weekly.

Which answers Depra reads

ChatGPT with web search and Gemini: the answers real people see in their web apps. Google AI Overviews: the Overview block on a real Google results page, plus whether one appeared at all. Perplexity: its answer model asked through the API with live web search. Starter covers 20 questions, 1 project and 3 competitors for ₹1,999 a month plus GST. Compare every plan.

What does an AI visibility audit cover?

An AI visibility audit, also called a GEO audit, measures how AI answers treat your brand across many questions and many runs, then points to what to change. GEO stands for generative engine optimisation, the work of getting your brand named in AI answers. A Depra audit covers eight things.

  • Visibility per engine: the share of answers that name you, shown separately for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.
  • Position: where you come when the answer lists options. 1 means you were named first.
  • Sentiment: whether AI talks about you warmly, neutrally or critically, with the exact sentence so you can check it.
  • Competitors: you and each tracked competitor ranked on the same questions. Brands AI keeps naming that you don't track are offered as one-click additions.
  • Cited websites: every website the answers link to, labelled editorial, forum, marketplace, directory, company site and more.
  • Gaps: websites that recommend your competitors but never mention you, down to the page. Citation gap analysis shows how the list is built.
  • Crawler access: robots.txt is the file that tells bots which pages they may read. Depra checks which of 41 AI crawlers from 26 vendors yours allows or blocks, with the exact rule. See the AI crawler checker.
  • Top fixes: your top fixes, each with its reason, plus ranked lists of up to 12 places to get mentioned and up to 12 page formats to publish on your own site.

The audit report

Your report pulls the headline numbers onto one printable page: a plain-English summary, visibility by engine with a confidence range, an English vs Hinglish table, competitors and your top fixes. Add your logo and save it as a PDF from your browser.

Why is one AI visibility check not enough?

AI engines rarely give the same answer twice, so one check can show you in a list you seldom make, or miss you on a question where you usually appear. Depra's study collected 480 answers asked from inside India. Two runs of the same question in the same language shared on average 54.7% of their named brands on ChatGPT, 51.2% on Gemini and 68.3% on Perplexity.

A score you can act on needs many answers collected over days. Depra reruns your questions on schedule, stores every answer in full and compares each number with the previous period. Does ChatGPT give the same answer to everyone? has the full numbers.

On ChatGPT and Gemini, about half the brand list changed between two identical runs of the same buying question. (Depra English vs Hinglish study, 480 answers, 14 Aug 2026)

Free AI visibility checkers vs Depra

Free instant checkers give the fastest first read, and the two below need no account to start. Ahrefs' checker takes a brand name. HubSpot's free AEO grader, now named AI Search Grader, asks for your company name, location, industry and products. Both run a one-time check on questions the tool picks.

Depra checks the questions you choose, on a schedule, and keeps every answer. Use a free checker for a first look and a tracked audit when you need a number you can compare month to month.

What is an AI visibility score?

An AI visibility score is the share of AI answers to your buyers' questions that name your brand. If 100 answers come back and 23 name you, your visibility is 23%.

Depra shows it per engine and over any date range, next to AI share of voice: your share of all brand mentions in those answers, compared with each competitor. Questions that already contain your name are left out, so the score counts only answers where AI chose to name you. Your report shows a confidence range with the number of answers behind it.

A free tool's grade out of 100 blends several factors, so do not compare it with a visibility percentage. The scoring rules behind Depra's numbers are on the AI visibility tracking page, and the best AI visibility tools compares other tracking tools.

Frequently asked

Is there a free AI visibility checker?

Yes. Ahrefs' AI Visibility Checker is free with no signup and shows a limited preview across five AI platforms. HubSpot's AI Search Grader is a free one-time check that asks for a short form before showing full results. Depra has no free plan: every plan starts with 7 days free after signup, with no card, and Starter then costs ₹1,999 a month plus GST.

How long does an AI visibility audit take?

Your first scan starts at signup. After that, ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews are checked daily and Perplexity weekly. The daily list of what changed needs at least two scan days, and confidence ranges narrow as answers build up during your 7 free days.

Which engines does the checker cover?

Four. ChatGPT with web search and Gemini, captured from the answers people see in their web apps. Google AI Overviews, read from real Google results pages. Perplexity, asked through its API with live web search. Google AI Mode, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI are not covered.

What is an AEO checker?

AEO, answer engine optimisation, is the work of getting your brand named in AI answers. An AEO checker tests whether that is happening: it asks AI engines buyer questions and reports whether they name and cite you. Tools sold as an LLM visibility checker, AI search visibility checker or AI rank checker run the same test. Depra runs the check on a schedule, so you can see how the numbers move after you make a change. What is AEO explains the practice.

Do I need a card?

No. You pick a plan at signup and get 7 days free on it with no card. Access stops on day 7 unless you buy, and you add a card or UPI AutoPay only when you do. Plans and limits are on Depra pricing.
