Depra is a Google AI Overview tracker: every day it loads the real Google results page for each of your buyers' questions, from inside the country you pick, and records whether an AI Overview appeared. When one does, Depra records whether it named your brand and your competitors, where you came in its list, and which websites it linked to.
An AI Overview is the AI-written summary Google shows above some search results, with links to the pages it drew from. Google does not show one for every search, and whether it shows one can change from one check to the next. A useful tracker checks often and keeps "no Overview shown" apart from "Overview shown without you".
AI Overviews are one of four engines on every Depra plan, next to ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
What does an AI Overview tracker measure?
An AI Overview tracker measures how often Overviews for your searches name you, where you come, and which websites they cite. Depra records these for every check, for your brand and for each competitor you track.
- Searches with no Overview: for every check, Depra records whether Google showed an AI Overview for that search in that country, and keeps checks with no Overview out of your scores.
- Visibility: the share of AI Overviews for your questions that name your brand. Checks where no Overview appeared are left out of this number.
- Position: where you come when the Overview lists brands. A position of 1 means you were named first.
- Sentiment: whether the Overview describes you warmly, neutrally or critically, with the exact sentence that names you so you can check it.
- Share of voice: your share of all brand mentions in the Overviews, next to each competitor. AI share of voice explained shows the calculation.
- Cited websites: every website the Overviews link to, how often, and whether those Overviews named you. Each site is labelled editorial, company site, forum, reference, marketplace, directory, government or your own site.
- Competitors: the same numbers for every competitor you track, scored on the same Overviews, so the ranking compares like with like.
Read every Overview behind the numbers
Depra stores the full text of every AI Overview it captures, with its source links. Open any one to read what Google wrote, which brands it named and in what order, and which pages it linked. You can filter the stored answers and export them to CSV.
For a single question, the drill-down shows its visibility trend, which engines name you, the websites and pages cited, and the answers themselves.
How does Depra handle searches with no AI Overview?
A search with no Overview and an Overview that leaves you out need different fixes. With no Overview, the regular results decide who gets the click. With an Overview that names three competitors and skips you, the sites it cites are where you have work to do.
Depra stores "no Overview shown" as its own result and keeps those checks out of your visibility score. A week in which Google shows fewer Overviews does not read as a drop in how often you are named. A check that fails to load is counted as a failed check and never recorded as "no Overview".
For example, you track 20 questions and Google shows an Overview for 12 of them on a given day. Your AI Overview visibility for that day is based on those 12. If 6 of them name you, your visibility is 50%, and the 8 searches without an Overview do not pull it down.
- Search with no Overview: ranking in the regular Google results decides the click. Depra keeps checking the question daily, because Google can start showing an Overview later.
- Overview shown, you not named: citation gap analysis lists the websites cited when your competitors are named and you are not.
- Overview shown, you named low in the list: compare the pages cited for the brands above you, then work through your AI action plan.
How does Depra check Google AI Overviews?
Depra runs each of your questions as a Google search from inside your chosen country once a day, and reads the AI Overview block on the results page with all of its source links. Each check is a fresh search from that country, with no signed-in account or search history behind it.
- Daily checks: AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini are checked every day, scheduled for 02:30 IST. Perplexity is checked weekly on every plan.
- Country level: pick from 40 markets: India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and 29 other European countries, 6 Gulf countries and Australia. Up to 10 markets per project. City-level location is not available.
- Buying questions without your name: Depra suggests 5 topics with 8 buying questions each, none of them naming your brand. Questions that already contain your name are left out of your scores by default, because a search for your brand almost always returns it.
- Mentions you can verify: spelling variants and web address forms of a brand name count as the same brand, and every mention keeps the sentence it came from.
| Engine | What Depra records | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews | The AI Overview on a real Google results page for that search in that country, its source links, and whether an Overview appeared | Daily |
| ChatGPT | The answer shown in the chatgpt.com web app, with web search switched on so it cites sources | Daily |
| Gemini | The answer shown in the gemini.google.com web app | Daily |
| Perplexity | The answer from the Sonar model with live web search, set to your country | Weekly |
Can you track AI Overviews in India, in English and Hinglish?
Yes. India is one of Depra's 40 markets, and every plan tracks English and Hinglish questions. Hinglish is Hindi and English typed in English letters, such as 'sabse accha protein powder kaunsa hai', which is how many Indian buyers search.
When India is one of your markets, Depra suggests a Hinglish version of each buying question. Both versions run on Google from inside India every day, and your report splits visibility between English and Hinglish questions.
Google can answer a Hinglish search with an Overview written in Hindi script. Depra detects the language of every answer it stores and matches brand names written in Hindi script as well as in English letters, so a Hinglish Overview that names you in Hindi script still counts. On 15 September 2026 Depra pulled 60 Google results pages from India for 10 shopping questions in English and Hinglish: 21 of the 25 Hinglish Overviews with loaded text were written mainly in Hindi script.
Questions typed in Hindi script are not tracked. Hinglish AI visibility tracking explains how the language split works, and Depra's Hinglish vs English AI search study shows how the language of a question changed the brands AI named.
Does Depra track Google AI Mode?
No. Depra tracks the AI Overview shown at the top of the Google results page. Google AI Mode, the separate conversational search mode in Google, is not tracked today.
Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI are not tracked either. The full list is on what Depra does not track. For the answers people get inside ChatGPT, see the ChatGPT visibility tracker.
How do you check AI Overviews by hand?
Open a private browser window, search your question on Google the way a buyer would type it, and write down whether an AI Overview appears, which brands it names and which sites it links. That works for a handful of searches.
- Use a private window: so your own search history does not shape the results.
- Search from the right country: results depend on where the search comes from. A search made in Mumbai will not show what a buyer in Dubai sees.
- Type it both ways: in English and in Hinglish, if your buyers use both.
- Expand the Overview: note each brand in the order it appears and every linked site.
- Repeat: on another day and on your phone. An Overview can appear on one check and be missing on the next.
Where manual checks stop working
Past 10 or 20 questions, hand checks get slow and hard to compare from week to week, and competitors multiply the work. Search Console counts traffic from AI features inside the overall Performance report, under the Web search type, so it will not tell you which Overviews named you.
Once you know where you stand, what GEO is and its 8-step checklist covers what Google says about how AI Overviews find pages, and the steps to take.
What should you do with AI Overview tracking data?
Use it to find the websites Overviews cite in your category and get your brand onto them. Depra turns the stored Overviews into a short list of next steps.
- Find the gap: citation gap analysis shows websites and pages AI cites when it names your competitors and never when it names you, at domain, subdomain and page level, with competitors' own sites filtered out.
- Follow a ranked plan: your AI action plan ranks up to 12 places to get mentioned, such as lists, reviews and forums, and up to 12 page formats to publish on your own site.
- See what changed: mark an action done and Depra shows your visibility when you ticked it and now, with the number of answers behind each figure. It is a before-and-after view and does not prove cause.
How much does an AI Overview tracker cost?
Depra's plans start at ₹1,999 a month plus GST, and Google AI Overviews are included on every plan with daily checks. Every plan starts with 7 days free on the plan you pick, with no card. Your first scan starts at signup.
| Plan | Price a month | Prompts | Projects | Competitors |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | ₹1,999 | 20 | 1 | 3 per project |
| Growth | ₹7,499 | 100 | 3 | 10 per project |
| Scale | ₹12,499 | 180, pooled | 25 | 15 per project |
| Enterprise | ₹25,000, invoiced | 400, pooled | 50 | 20 per project |
What counts as a check
One question searched on Google once is one check, whether or not an Overview appeared. Each plan has a monthly ceiling on checks across all engines: 2,400 on Starter, 11,000 on Growth, 19,000 on Scale and 40,000 on Enterprise. If you reach it, scheduled checks drop to weekly for the rest of the month, so data keeps coming in. A one-time pack of 1,500 extra checks costs ₹1,499.
