Product visibility in ChatGPT is how often ChatGPT shows your products when shoppers ask what to buy. Depra AI records the products shown in every ChatGPT answer it stores for your tracked questions. Its Shopping report ranks the brands whose products appeared and gives the average position of each brand's products. It also lists the top products, the questions that trigger products and the stores that sell the shown products.
OpenAI says shopping in ChatGPT is live for users in the US today and will expand to more regions (OpenAI merchants page, checked 7 Oct 2026). If you track questions for India, your Shopping report may show few or no products until ChatGPT shows products there. Depra AI records products whenever ChatGPT shows them in a tracked answer. Brand mentions, cited websites and product prompts do not depend on this. They work on all four engines for India.
An answer where ChatGPT shows products is called a shopping answer. Only ChatGPT returns products. On Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, Depra AI tracks brand mentions and the websites each answer cites. Google AI Overviews are the AI summaries above some Google results. To follow one product there, you track a product prompt: a buying question written for that product.
Retailers call one sellable product a SKU (stock keeping unit). For SKU level AI visibility, the report counts how many products of each brand appeared and lists the top products. Product visibility is one of the Depra AI features.
What is a shopping answer in ChatGPT?
A shopping answer is a ChatGPT answer that shows products. OpenAI says ChatGPT can show product options when a question suggests shopping intent. Each option comes with an image, product details and links to sites where the shopper can learn more or buy (OpenAI Help Center, checked 7 Oct 2026). This page calls each product shown a card.
Not every answer has products. So Depra AI counts shopping answers on their own and lists the questions that trigger products.
Depra AI asks ChatGPT your tracked questions every day, from inside the country you choose, with web search on. It stores each full answer and records the products that answer showed. Our ChatGPT shopping guide covers the feature itself.
What does the Shopping report show?
The Shopping report shows whose products ChatGPT showed for your tracked questions. It has a ranked list of brands, with four numbers for each brand, and three shorter lists. In the app the report is called Shopping.
| Item | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Brands, ranked | The brands whose products ChatGPT showed, ranked by the share of shopping answers that show their products |
| Shopping answers | For each brand, the number of shopping answers that showed its products |
| Share | For each brand, that number as a percentage of all shopping answers |
| Average position | For each brand, the average position of its products |
| Products (SKUs) | For each brand, how many of its products appeared |
| Top merchants | The stores the shown products are sold by |
| Prompts that trigger products | The tracked questions for which ChatGPT showed products |
| Top products | The top products among those ChatGPT showed |
Which brands are counted
A brand in the report can be one your project tracks: your own brand or a competitor. It can also be a brand Depra AI inferred from a product that was shown. So the ranking can include brands you have not added to your project.
Filters and single answers
Filter the report by date range, language, market (the country), topic and tag, the same filters as the other reports. A topic is a group of your questions, and a tag is a label you put on questions. You can also filter the answers list to shopping answers. Open one ChatGPT answer to see the products it showed and the web searches ChatGPT ran behind it.
How do you track products in ChatGPT and the other three engines?
Track a product prompt for each product you care about. A prompt is one question a buyer asks AI. A product prompt is a buying question written for one product, such as "best body balm under ₹3,000".
Depra AI asks it on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. It records whether each answer names your product, a rival's product, or neither. This works on all four engines because Depra AI reads the text of the answer.
The Shopping report covers the products ChatGPT chose to show. A product prompt covers a product you choose, on all four engines. So it gives you per product AI visibility even where an answer shows no product cards. AI visibility tracking explains how answers are collected and scored.
Each product prompt uses one prompt slot for each language and market. Starter has 16 prompt slots, Growth 70, Scale 120 and Enterprise 300, so start with the products that matter most. Plan limits are on Depra AI pricing.
How does Depra AI read your store's product list?
When you set up a project for your own site, DepraBot checks whether the site is an online store. DepraBot is Depra AI's web reader. If the site is a store, it reads the store's product list, so Depra AI knows which products are yours. Setup needs no Shopify app and no access token.
- Shopify stores: DepraBot uses the Shopify Storefront API on the store's own myshopify.com address, without an access token. An API is a way for software to ask a site for data. An access token is a key the store issues to allow that. DepraBot reads /products.json when the Storefront API did not return the full list. More on Depra AI for Shopify.
- Other stores: On a store that is not on Shopify, DepraBot uses the WooCommerce Store API. If no API lists products, it reads the store's sitemaps and up to 3 product pages. A sitemap is a file that lists a site's pages.
- Only your own site: DepraBot reads your site, its subdomains (addresses such as shop.yourbrand.com) and the store's own myshopify.com address. A marketplace or social page entered as your website is not read at all.
- robots.txt is obeyed: robots.txt is the file that tells bots what they may read. If yours keeps DepraBot out, you can upload your product list as a file instead. About DepraBot lists every file it asks for.
- When scans run: A scan runs once at setup and once a week after that. Someone on your team can also start one with Fetch. Fetch allows 3 scans per project per day on Starter and Growth, and 5 on Scale and Enterprise.
- Nothing is written: Depra AI never changes your store. It never edits a product, a price or a page. The store catalogue docs set out the steps.
How do you check your product visibility in ChatGPT, step by step?
Check four things in the Shopping report: the questions that trigger products, your missing products, the stores and your rivals.
- Step 1. Find the questions that trigger products. Open the prompts that trigger products: the buying questions where ChatGPT shows cards. Then filter the answers list to shopping answers and open a few, to see whose products were shown. If the list is empty, ChatGPT showed no products for your tracked questions in that period.
- Step 2. Find the products that never appear. The report counts how many of your products appeared and lists the top products. Set that against what you sell. Say you sell 40 products and 6 appeared: the other 34 were not shown for these questions in that period. Add a product prompt for the ones that matter most.
- Step 3. See which stores carry the shown products. Top merchants lists the stores the shown products are sold by. Check whether your own store is among them, or whether the cards point to a marketplace or another retailer. Marketplace intelligence covers the store side.
- Step 4. Compare with rival brands. Brands are ranked by the share of shopping answers that show their products. A rival with a higher share and more products shown is ahead of you in the cards for these questions.

What are the limits of product tracking in Depra AI?
Depra AI records what ChatGPT showed for the questions you track. Know these limits before you act on the numbers.
- ChatGPT shopping is live in the US today. OpenAI says so, and says it will expand to more regions (OpenAI merchants page, checked 7 Oct 2026). A project that tracks questions for India may show few or no products until ChatGPT shows products there.
- Only ChatGPT returns products. Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews answers are tracked for brand mentions and sources, not for product cards. Use product prompts for those engines.
- Percentages are over shopping answers. A share of 40% means 40% of the answers that showed products, not 40% of all answers. Say 200 ChatGPT answers are stored and 50 of them showed products. A brand shown in 20 of those 50 has a share of 40%. Read the number of shopping answers next to each share, because a share built on a few answers can move a lot.
- No promise of placement. OpenAI says ChatGPT selects product results independently and that they are not ads (OpenAI Help Center, checked 7 Oct 2026). No tool can promise a placement there. Depra AI records what was shown. Compare date ranges to see what moved after a change. That does not prove the change caused it.
How does product visibility fit with the rest of Depra AI?
Product visibility is the AI shopping visibility part of Depra AI, and it sits next to brand tracking. AI visibility tracking shows how often four engines name your brand. The Shopping report shows which products ChatGPT puts in its cards. Citation gap analysis shows the websites behind the answers that leave you out.
The Depra AI MCP server can read the same Shopping data. It is a read-only connection for AI apps such as Claude Code and Cursor. See the MCP docs.
