Best Shopify SEO apps and tools: 9 compared from their own listings

Six Shopify apps and three general SEO tools, each described only from its own listing or pricing page, read on 7 Oct 2026 and again on 8 Oct 2026. Prices are in the currency shown.

The best Shopify SEO apps for most stores are one all-in-one app plus Google Search Console. On 7 Oct 2026 the first unpaid results in the Shopify App Store for "SEO" were SEOLab, Smart SEO, Booster SEO, Avada SEO and TinySEO (Shopify App Store search, checked 7 Oct 2026).

An all-in-one app does the routine jobs. It edits meta tags, the page title and description that search engines show. It writes alt text, a description of each image. It compresses images and adds structured data, code that labels price and stock for search engines.

This page compares those five, Yoast SEO and three general tools. We did not test them. Each entry states only what its listing or pricing page said on 8 Oct 2026, and who it suits on that basis. The order follows the App Store search results and is not a ranking. Depra AI publishes this page and is not one of the nine. It tracks whether AI assistants name your store, which is a different job. For the SEO work itself, use the Shopify SEO guide and checklist.

Prices as each page shows them on 8 Oct 2026. The six Shopify app rows were checked again that day. Five showed the same plans, prices and trials as before. SEOLab's listing now shows three paid plans next to its free plan, so its row and entry were updated (SEOLab, Smart SEO, Booster SEO, Avada SEO, TinySEO and Yoast SEO listings, checked 8 Oct 2026). The Google Search Console, Ahrefs and Semrush rows were checked again the same day (Google Search Console Help, Ahrefs pricing and Semrush pricing, checked 8 Oct 2026). Paid Shopify apps state that charges are billed in USD (Smart SEO and Yoast SEO listings, checked 8 Oct 2026). The rows follow the App Store search order, then the three general tools. The order is not a ranking.

How did we choose these Shopify SEO apps and tools?

We took what the Shopify App Store showed first, then added three general tools. A search for "SEO" on 7 Oct 2026 returned 7,275 apps (Shopify App Store search, checked 7 Oct 2026). The first four results were marked as paid, so we skipped them. TinySEO held one of those paid slots and also appeared in the unpaid results.

The next five were SEOLab, Smart SEO, Booster SEO, Avada SEO and TinySEO. We added Yoast SEO from lower in the same results, because its listing takes a different approach: guidance on your writing.

The general tools are Google Search Console, which Shopify's own help centre tells store owners to use (Shopify Help Center, sitemap, checked 7 Oct 2026), and two SEO suites, Ahrefs and Semrush. A suite is one subscription for keyword research, rank tracking and site audits.

The order below follows the App Store results and is not a ranking. Ratings appear only as the App Store showed them that day.

What does a Shopify SEO app add to what Shopify already does?

It adds bulk editing, automation and audits. Shopify already generates a sitemap, which lists your pages, and a robots.txt file, which sets rules for bots. It adds canonical tags, which mark the main address of a page, and its themes include product structured data (Shopify Help Center, SEO overview, checked 7 Oct 2026).

So an app mostly saves time. The listings below describe the same core jobs: bulk meta tag edits, alt text, image compression, broken link fixes and extra structured data. Install one all-in-one app, not several, because two apps that write the same tags can clash.

The six Shopify SEO apps, one by one

The first five carry the Built for Shopify badge. The App Store describes it as meeting its highest standards for performance, design and integration (Shopify App Store search, checked 7 Oct 2026). The short names below are ours, so each entry also gives the full listing name.

1. SEOLab

It is listed as "SEOLab: All in #1 SEO & AEO". The listing describes site scans for indexing, speed and tag errors. It also covers meta tag and alt text optimisation, structured data and bulk redirects for broken links.

Price as listed: Free, Beginner at $14 a month, Advanced at $29 and Enterprise at $59, with a 7-day free trial on paid plans. The free plan lists a 50-page SEO check and site audit, 30 AI credits and 100 image optimisations. The broken links finder and fixer is listed on Advanced (SEOLab listing, checked 8 Oct 2026). Rating: 4.9 from 2,819 reviews, as shown on the Shopify App Store on 7 Oct 2026 (SEOLab listing).

Who it suits: a store that wants one app for the routine jobs and can start on the free plan.

2. Smart SEO

It is listed as "Smart SEO AI & Image Optimizer". The listing says its AI writes meta tags, alt text and product descriptions. It also covers image and speed optimisation, broken links and sitemap control. Structured data and bulk edits start on Pro.

Price as listed: Free, Pro at $14.99 a month, Business at $24.99 and Premium at $49.99, with a 7-day free trial on paid plans. The free plan lists 50 image optimisations, 20 AI generations and a broken link check of 100 pages (Smart SEO listing, checked 8 Oct 2026). Rating: 5.0 from 955 reviews, as shown on the Shopify App Store on 7 Oct 2026 (Smart SEO listing).

Who it suits: a store that wants AI-written tags and can start small on the free plan.

3. Booster SEO

It is listed as "BOOSTER AI SEO + AEO OPTIMIZER". The listing says the app scans your store continuously and fixes SEO issues without manual work: images, broken links and meta tags. Meta title and description optimisation and structured data start on Pro.

Price as listed: Free, Pro at $39 a month and Premium at $69, with a 14-day free trial on paid plans. The free plan lists manual audits, alt text and broken link reports, and automatic fixes start on Pro (Booster SEO listing, checked 8 Oct 2026). Rating: 4.8 from 5,483 reviews, as shown on the Shopify App Store on 7 Oct 2026 (Booster SEO listing).

Who it suits: an owner who wants fixes applied without manual work, which the listing puts on Pro.

4. Avada SEO

It is listed as "Avada AI SEO Image Optimizer". The listing leads with an AI audit that scans every page for SEO issues and applies fixes in one click. It also covers speed features, structured data, sitemaps and redirects.

Price as listed: Free, Pro at $34.95 a month and Enterprise at $99, with a 7-day free trial on paid plans. The free plan lists 100 image optimisations and 20 on-page audits, and the plan list names an AI on-page audit agent under Enterprise (Avada SEO listing, checked 8 Oct 2026). Rating: 4.9 from 4,685 reviews, as shown on the Shopify App Store on 7 Oct 2026 (Avada SEO listing).

Who it suits: a store that wants a guided checklist and page audits.

5. TinySEO

It is listed as "TinySEO: SEO & Image Optimizer", and its developer is shown as formerly TinyIMG. It covers image compression and resizing, alt text and file names, structured data, broken link redirects and site audits.

Price as listed: free to install, with 50 image optimisations a month and extra images at 3 cents each. Monthly plans are Beginner at $14, Advanced at $23 and Expert at $49. Broken link redirects start on Advanced (TinySEO listing, checked 8 Oct 2026). Rating: 5.0 from 2,531 reviews, as shown on the Shopify App Store on 7 Oct 2026 (TinySEO listing).

Who it suits: image-heavy stores, because the price depends on how many images you optimise each month.

6. Yoast SEO

It is listed as "Yoast SEO - Store optimization". The listing describes guidance more than automation: SEO and readability analysis, structured data, a bulk editor and AI suggestions for titles and descriptions. Yoast says the feedback appears while you edit products, collections and blog posts (Yoast SEO for Shopify, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Price as listed: Yoast SEO Premium at $19 a month and Yoast SEO AI+ at $45, each with a 14-day free trial. The listing shows no free plan (Yoast SEO listing, checked 8 Oct 2026). Rating: 4.3 from 176 reviews, as shown on the Shopify App Store on 7 Oct 2026 (Yoast SEO listing).

Who it suits: stores that publish a lot of content and want checks while writing. With no free plan listed, the 14-day trial is the way to test it.

The three general SEO tools

These are not Shopify apps and work with any website. They show what Google sees and what shoppers search for.

7. Google Search Console

Search Console is a free service from Google. It shows how often your store appears in Google Search, which searches show it and how often people click. It also flags indexing problems, where Google has trouble adding a page to its results, and shows the sites that link to you (Google Search Console Help, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Who it suits: every store, whatever app it uses. It costs nothing and shows what Google itself records about your store.

8. Ahrefs

Ahrefs is an SEO suite. Its pricing page lists Keywords Explorer for keyword research, Site Explorer for competitor sites, Rank Tracker and Site Audit (Ahrefs pricing, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Price as listed: Starter at $29 a month, Lite at $129, Standard at $249 and Advanced at $449. Enterprise is $1,499 a month with an annual commitment. Website owners can sign up for Ahrefs Free, with limited access to Site Explorer and Site Audit (Ahrefs pricing, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Who it suits: owners and agencies who want keyword and competitor research for any website, not only a Shopify store.

9. Semrush

Semrush is also an SEO suite. Its SEO plan lists 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, keyword research, competitor analysis, Position Tracking and Site Audit (Semrush pricing, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Price as listed: $139 a month, or $117.33 a month billed annually. A Free plan at $0 gives 1 demo project and 10 reports a day, with no credit card (Semrush pricing, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Who it suits: teams that want keyword research, daily tracking of up to 500 keywords and site audits across up to 5 websites. Semrush describes the Free plan as a way to try the platform.

Which Shopify SEO app should you pick?

Pick by the job, start on a free plan and upgrade only when you hit a limit. The work itself is in the Shopify SEO checklist. SEO beyond Shopify is in the ecommerce SEO guide.

  • To start at no cost: SEOLab, Smart SEO, Booster SEO and Avada SEO have free plans with limits (SEOLab, Smart SEO, Booster SEO and Avada SEO listings, checked 8 Oct 2026).
  • For image-heavy stores: TinySEO prices by images optimised, with 50 a month free (TinySEO listing, checked 8 Oct 2026).
  • For stores that publish a lot: Yoast SEO checks SEO and readability as you write, from $19 a month (Yoast SEO listing, checked 8 Oct 2026).
  • To see what Google sees: Google Search Console, at no cost.
  • For keyword research: Ahrefs from $29 a month on Starter, or Semrush at $139 a month on its SEO plan (Ahrefs pricing, Semrush SEO pricing, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Do these apps tell you whether AI assistants recommend your store?

Mostly no. An SEO app changes your pages. It does not ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google what they recommend when a shopper asks about your category. Preparing a store to be read is one job. Measuring what assistants then say is another.

Several listings mention AI search. Most describe preparation: llms.txt files, structured data and AI-written meta tags. llms.txt is a text file that describes a site to AI tools. Shopify already manages one for a store by default (Shopify developer documentation, checked 7 Oct 2026), so check what an app adds before paying for that feature.

Shopify also has a free app of its own, Knowledge Base. It lets you view and customise the FAQs that AI shopping agents use to answer questions about your store (Shopify Help Center, optimizing your store for AI, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Four of the nine state some tracking of AI answers, mostly on paid plans. Before you rely on one, ask which country it asks from and whether you can read the full answers.

  • Yoast SEO AI+. The $45 plan adds AI Brand Insights. It scans how ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity describe your brand, with sentiment, competitor benchmarks and cited sources. Yoast says you open it in a MyYoast account, not inside the Shopify app (Yoast SEO for Shopify, checked 8 Oct 2026).
  • SEOLab. The listing says it tracks your store's visibility in Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and more (SEOLab listing, checked 8 Oct 2026).
  • Ahrefs. Lite includes 5 tracked AI prompts, and Brand Radar AI is sold from $199 a month (Ahrefs pricing, checked 8 Oct 2026).
  • Semrush. The SEO plan marks AI search tracking as not included. It starts on the Starter plan at $199 a month, with 50 prompts tracked daily (Semrush pricing, checked 8 Oct 2026).

Where does Depra AI fit?

Depra AI is not a Shopify SEO app and is not in the list above. It is AI visibility tracking software. It measures whether AI assistants name your store, and it changes nothing in your store. There is nothing to install in Shopify.

It asks your buyers' questions to four AI engines from inside the country you sell in. ChatGPT with web search, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, the AI summaries above Google results, run daily. Perplexity runs weekly. Questions can be in English or Hinglish, which is Hindi and English typed in English letters. It stores every full answer and shows how often each engine names you and your competitors, and which websites it cites.

For stores, it records the products ChatGPT showed as cards and the merchants that sell them. OpenAI says shopping in ChatGPT is live for users in the US today and will expand to more regions (OpenAI's merchants page, checked 7 Oct 2026). If you track questions for India, your Shopping report may show few or no products until ChatGPT shows products there. Depra AI records products whenever ChatGPT shows them in a tracked answer. See product visibility and the guide to ChatGPT shopping. Setup needs no Shopify app and no access token, as AI visibility for Shopify stores explains. Its AI crawler checker shows which of 41 AI crawlers your robots.txt allows.

It does not edit pages, write content or run a technical SEO audit, so you still need the SEO work above. Plans start at ₹1,999 a month plus GST, with no free plan. For other trackers, see the best AI visibility tools for Shopify.
