To give an Amazon.in or Flipkart listing its best chance of being found in marketplace search and named when ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity answer Indian buyers, fill in every field the marketplace asks for. That means a clear title, specific bullet points, full specs, sharp images, A+ content where you can use it, and honest reviews. Then keep every fact identical on your own site and on every other marketplace.
This matters because, in our India study of skincare and fashion questions, AI shopping answers cited marketplaces often. To cite a site is to link to it as a source. In the October 2026 re-run of our India study, amazon.in was cited in 132 of 479 AI shopping answers, more than any other site, and flipkart.com in 82.
Neither the marketplaces nor the AI engines publish their full ranking rules, so this guide makes no claim about them. Each rule below cites a seller page or is marked as general practice.
Why do Amazon and Flipkart listings matter for AI answers?
Because, in our India study, marketplaces were among the sites AI shopping answers cited most. When an answer cites a marketplace page, your listing is either on it or not.
Our Hinglish vs English AI shopping study asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity 10 buying questions about skincare and fashion from inside India, in English and Hinglish. It ran twice. In August 2026 (480 answers), reddit.com led, cited in 106 answers, then youtube.com in 100, nykaa.com in 93, and amazon.in and flipkart.com in 79 each. Further down, myntra.com was cited in 47. In the October 2026 re-run (479 answers), amazon.in led with 132, then flipkart.com 82, hindustantimes.com 76 and nykaa.com 65. Further down the list, myntra.com was cited in 44.
These numbers cover two categories, with the three engines counted together. Your category may differ.
| Site | August 2026 (480 answers) | October 2026 (479 answers) |
|---|---|---|
| amazon.in | 79 | 132 |
| flipkart.com | 79 | 82 |
| nykaa.com | 93 | 65 |
| myntra.com | 47 | 44 |
Is Amazon and Flipkart SEO the same as AI visibility?
No, but the same listing serves both. Marketplace SEO is about where your product appears in Amazon's or Flipkart's own search. AI visibility is about whether AI engines name your brand, and which pages they cite. See also marketplace visibility in AI answers.
The overlap is the listing itself. Flipkart's seller guide says the aim of listing optimisation is to make products easier to find, more appealing to buyers and more likely to sell (Flipkart Seller Hub, checked 14 Oct 2026). OpenAI says that when ChatGPT picks products to show, it considers structured metadata from first-party and third-party providers, such as price and product description, and other third-party content (OpenAI Help Center, checked 14 Oct 2026).
What should every Amazon or Flipkart listing have?
Seven things: a clear title, specific bullet points, complete specs, good images, A+ content where you are eligible, real reviews, and facts that match your own site. The table sums them up. The details and sources follow.
| Element | What to do | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Concise and descriptive, with the words a buyer searches for. 200 characters at most on Amazon.in for most categories | Amazon Seller Central India, Flipkart Seller Hub |
| Bullet points | Short, descriptive sentences on key features and benefits | sell.amazon.in, Flipkart Seller Hub |
| Specs | Every attribute the category asks for: size, colour, material, pack size, ingredients | General practice |
| Images | High resolution, several angles. Amazon.in suggests 500 x 500 or 1,000 x 1,000 pixels for listing quality | sell.amazon.in, Flipkart Seller Hub |
| A+ content | Brand story, comparison chart and detailed descriptions, if you are in Amazon Brand Registry | sell.amazon.in |
| Reviews | Ask real buyers. Never pay for a review or write your own | amazon.in Community Guidelines |
| Consistent facts | The same name, sizes, claims and specs on your site and every marketplace | General practice, OpenAI Help Center |
Title
Amazon India's seller news says that from 21 January 2025, titles in most categories may not exceed 200 characters, including spaces. A title may not use the same word more than twice, apart from small joining words. Characters such as !, $ and ? are not allowed unless they are part of the brand name (Amazon Seller Central India, checked 14 Oct 2026). Flipkart's guide asks for a title that is concise yet descriptive, and gives "Men's Cotton Blue T-shirt Size L" as an example (Flipkart Seller Hub, checked 14 Oct 2026).
Bullet points and key features
Amazon.in describes bullet points as short, descriptive sentences that highlight key features and benefits (sell.amazon.in, checked 14 Oct 2026). Flipkart's guide asks sellers to highlight key features and unique selling points, for example the storage and camera of a phone (Flipkart Seller Hub, checked 14 Oct 2026). Write checkable facts, such as "50 ml", not adjectives.
Specs and variations
Fill in every attribute the category form offers, even the optional ones. Amazon.in lists variations such as different colours, scents or sizes as part of a listing (sell.amazon.in, checked 14 Oct 2026). As general practice, a question such as "best sunscreen for oily skin" can only match your product if the skin type is written down.
Images
Amazon.in suggests images of 500 x 500 or 1,000 x 1,000 pixels to increase listing quality (sell.amazon.in, checked 14 Oct 2026). Flipkart's guide asks for high-resolution images taken from multiple angles (Flipkart Seller Hub, checked 14 Oct 2026). Put key facts in the text too, not only inside an image.
A+ content
A+ content is the extra section of brand images, text and comparison charts on an Amazon product page. Amazon.in says it is open to brand owners registered under Amazon Brand Registry, and can hold detailed product descriptions, brand stories, lifestyle photos and comparison charts (sell.amazon.in, checked 14 Oct 2026). No public source we found says whether AI engines read it.
Reviews
Ask buyers for honest reviews, and offer nothing in return. Amazon.in's Community Guidelines do not allow a review in exchange for any compensation, including cash, refunds, free or discounted products or gift cards. They also do not allow a seller to post reviews of its own products or a competitor's products (amazon.in Community Guidelines, checked 14 Oct 2026). Flipkart's guide asks sellers to encourage reviews and to address negative feedback quickly (Flipkart Seller Hub, checked 14 Oct 2026). OpenAI says ChatGPT's product review summaries are based on reviews from public websites (OpenAI Help Center, checked 14 Oct 2026).
Why should your facts match on every marketplace and your own site?
Because different facts in different places give AI engines conflicting information about one product. This is general practice. OpenAI says ChatGPT may write simplified product titles and descriptions, because merchants often use varying titles and descriptions for the same product (OpenAI Help Center, checked 14 Oct 2026). If your Amazon.in title says 100 ml and your Flipkart title says 120 ml, the sources disagree.
Five steps keep your facts in line. This is general practice, not a marketplace rule.
- 1. Write one fact sheet. Product name, pack sizes, ingredients or materials, and claims you can prove. Every listing copies from it.
- 2. Use one product name. The same name on your own site, Amazon.in, Flipkart, Nykaa, Myntra and Meesho.
- 3. Match your own product page. Your own site should state the same facts in plain text. Our guide to product visibility in AI search covers your own pages.
- 4. Change everything on the same day. When a pack size or formula changes, update every listing and your site together.
- 5. Keep stock and price current. OpenAI says it ranks the merchants for a product on factors like availability, price, quality, and whether the merchant is the maker or primary seller (OpenAI Help Center, checked 14 Oct 2026).
How do you check whether AI answers cite your listings?
Ask the questions your buyers ask and read the sources. Write 10 to 20 buying questions for your category that do not name your brand.
- 1. Ask each engine. Ask every question in ChatGPT with search on, Gemini, Perplexity and Google, several times each, and repeat monthly.
- 2. Note every marketplace link. Record which marketplace pages each answer cites, and whether the page is a product page, a category page or an article.
- 3. Open the cited pages. Check whether your product appears on them, and which rivals do.
What does Depra AI's marketplace intelligence show, and what does it not?
Marketplace intelligence in Depra AI shows which marketplaces AI answers cite in your category, such as Amazon.in, Flipkart, Nykaa, Myntra and Meesho, and where rivals are cited and you are not. Depra AI labels every cited website by site type, and marketplace is one of the types. It reads ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews answers to the questions you track. To see how this compares with AITLAS by Shiprocket on engines, marketplaces and pricing, read Depra AI vs AITLAS.
The gap list shows the sites, marketplaces included, cited in answers that name a competitor while your brand is missing. It is on Growth and above, as Depra AI pricing shows. For ChatGPT, the Shopping report lists the stores its product cards point to. A product card is a small panel for one product inside an answer. The Shopping report is on Growth, Scale and Enterprise, and product visibility explains it.
A project can also keep a list of facts about your brand, and Depra AI counts the claims in AI answers that supported or contradicted each fact over the last 28 days.
- No marketplace search rankings. Depra AI does not track where your product ranks in Amazon's or Flipkart's own search.
- No sales data. It does not see your marketplace sales.
- No Buy Box. It does not track the Buy Box, the name sometimes used for the Offer Display area of an Amazon product page (Sell on Amazon, checked 14 Oct 2026).
- No ads. It does not track marketplace ads.
- No Amazon Rufus. It does not track Rufus, Amazon's shopping assistant, which was renamed Alexa for Shopping on 13 May 2026 (About Amazon, checked 14 Oct 2026).
- No listing edits. The software never creates or edits a listing. On request, the Depra AI team runs a client account end to end, with the client approving each change. Holy Strips is the published example.
